Competitor monitoring
The purpose of competitor monitoring is to monitor the procedure of a title (a patent for example) owned by one of your competitors and/or in a specific technological field.
With competitor monitoring, you can anticipate your competitors’ technology and also intervene in the procedure, by mounting an opposition for example.
In terms of trademarks, competitor monitoring enables you to be notified of any trademark registered by a third party for products and services similar to yours.
The opposition periods are very short (2 months for French trademarks, 3 months for a European trademark or 9 months for a European patent). Therefore, without competitor monitoring, an opposition action can be foreclosed very easily.
